Its not a silly question and it is something we have looked at but the vet isn't sure that he will survive the anaesthetic due to his variety of health conditions. If there is no chance of a home as he is we may make it to risking trying to neuter him but, at the moment, I am trying my luck without!

And Polly - thanks for the interest, I don't want to pass him off with any sneaky hidden traits - its not fair on anyone!

I reckon from what has been said that he is considered too old to undergo the anasthetic if he is pretty elderly. It does tend to make them smell a lot better though from what I have learned!

No problem, the honesty is appreciated!

I got a lot of info on the ferret forum, they also have a lively rescue section and a lot of people willing to step up to foster etc.

Honestly? He is an entire male and does stink. I also don't have a spare cage to be passed on with him, yet another problem. I know its a long shot and I imagine we will have to euthanase him but while she can keep him a little longer I want to do all I can for him.

I thought they all reeked to high heaven, but the practice I was at recently had two (male and female, neutered) and they were fine! You could only smell them when you literally had your nose right by the cage, and then, not strongly.

I've never met a ferret that didn't stink! I do quite like them (when they don't bite me!) but wouldn't have one living inside. When I had rats, they were smelly enough!

I am in London and have recently been reading up a lot about ferrets and seriously considering rehoming or particularly long term fostering some oldies... I want to try rescues or older ones on a foster as I have cats, and I need to make sure they will all get on.

I can let the ferrets out without the cats around if I have to, but long term I want them all to get on, hence why I don't want to commit to getting young uns and be stuck in a situation that doesn't really work for a lot of years!

I would consider taking him if he has a cage that can be borrowed with him while he is still around?

Also being entire, is he a real stinker? I have a one bedroom flat so couldn't hack having a really pongy lad, and the only entire one I have met before smelled really strongly!
