I missed him at feeding time, it is very unusual for him to leave home at any time.

Well, I'm still reeling from the shock and sadness of it all to be honest. However, I did manage to drag myself into work all over the weekend and I felt better for it. If I had stayed at home, I likely would have spent the time moping around or in bed with mum looking after the kids.

Due to my ex's bankruptcy and the future of our home so uncertain, I cannot bury Ranger in my garden, so he is going to the crematorium tomorrow for private cremation.

I've spoken with them and have decided on a beautiful tribute frame. Just have to decide now on which photo of him I will place in the frame.

Re: Ranger

So sad. My pooch who went 3 years ago left a HUGE pooch shaped hole in my heart... it has taken a lot of time, and lots of crying, but now that pooch shaped hole is filled with lovely memories.

It won't mean much to say it now, but you will heal Paula.

I phoned a pet bereavement helpline after losing pooch, and they really helped me

Steph - many thanks for your call and Vicky - many thanks for your text.

Thanks to all of you who have pm'd me and sent messages of support - thats what this forum is all about.

To say I am devastated, would be saying the least. I have 2 number one girls, but he was my number 1 boy.

I saw Ranger advertised in my local paper when he was in the dog pound. For 7 weeks, I saw his photo in the paper. I said to my (now ex) husband that if he was still in the paper the following week, then I was going to have him, so thats what I did.

He was my bestest boy, not once did he even show a flicker of interest in the cats, all he done was love me and love Rosie - my old German SH Pointer. He adored Rosie from day 1, and for some reason, he must have known she had (arthritis) aches and pains as he was always ever so gentle when he was around her.

I would have come home from work in the evenings (mum would have let them out during day) and Ranger always knew the sound of the car. I would pull into the drive, and there he would be, standing, and would escort me into the drive. I always said he was my car bodyguard lol!!

Then, (he always knew the drill) I would get out, greet them all, then we would walk down the lane to my parents to get my boys. Ranger always walked by my side, nuzzling me with his nose to let me know he was there.

Those are the little things I will miss most.

Been chatting to a few of my vet friends tonight, and they both reckon that he must have died from a heart attack or similar as he looks as if he just went in his sleep.

No consolation for me though as I miss him terribly. He really has left a black hole in my heart

Have you ever taken his normal resp rate? Based on observing my own pets I think greyhounds and other sighthounds have a higher than 'normal' resp rate and also appear to make more effort than some other breeds. I've just checked Marlon (healthy, snoozing greyhound) and his rate is 26 with a significant rise and fall of his chest. I only say this I spent an anxious time observing one of my own dogs once before deciding that she was perfectly normal! I also had a lurcher that developed ascites and oedema secondary to a pericardial effusion and she displayed classic resp difficulty signs - lieing in sternal only, neck stretched forward and flared nostrils - whilst remaining lovely and pink and with normal heart rate and pulse quality! Is he otherwise OK?

Re: Ranger

Glad he seems comfortable. Wonder what happened to him? Does he still seem spooked today?

Re: Ranger

Thanks guys.
