If a svn who is due to sit exams in Dec left her Training Practice to work as a vn in a non TP could she still sit her exam? They wouldn't be able to do portfolio work or work the

Re: unqualified vn?

Thanks very much folks.
I will assume you are referring to LV3. The VRQ (theory) part of the course does not require the SVN to be in a TP to be able to sit their theory exams, i.e. the student has completed their portfolio and is just waiting to sit their theory exam. They can move to a non-TP. They do need to be in an active TP to complete any part of their portfolio and 100% completion is required to sit the OSCEs. If they have finished the portfolio, they can move to a non TP whilst waiting to sit their OSCEs.

The problem is calculating the hours training. The RCVS states that students must have completed at least 94 weeks (3290 hours) training over their enrolment period to be able to list as a VN on the RCVS register on completing their exams. In the portfolio, the section where the student lists their training hours (minus sick / holidays) should add up to this total. The risk is that if the student moves to a non-TP (therefore not contributing any training hours) they will have to move to a TP to make these hours up at a later date to be able to list - after all - whats the point of training, if you don't list with the RCVS. The enrolment period is 5 years and they are expected to complete and list in this period. If they leave it too long, they may have to re-enrol if the RCVS permits, along with enrolment fees.

Hope this helps

Anyway, as far as I'm aware if said SVN has not completed his/her required number of hrs or portfolio then I would think the answer would be no! They would be better to remain in TP practice until completed examinations
