No cat grabber at work but thanks for the carpet idea and l will get the soil dry good idea.

I've used an off cut of carpet before, wrap round and secure with string or sticky tape. Pot has always tapped off but was quite dry and sandy.

I thought about a towel but think it will get snagged in all the thorns and damage it hence newspaper

I've got an Old Mans Beard cactus that I've had since I was 16, over 25 years!!!!! It is at least 3ft high... it doesn't do much these days except get moved from its summer place to its winter place and vice versa.... I always wrap a t-towel round it to support it, lift it and stop me getting prickled

My nan used to wrap paper around her cactus to re-pot it.. she made it look so easy lol! She would get newpaper.. fold it a few times length ways and wrap it around the cactus and then use a spoon to help lift it out the pot.. like I said, she made it look easy lol! xx
