I am starting at CAW in a few weeks and have had this exact problem. First CAW told us that I didn't have to enrol with RCVS until a couple of weeks before term.. then they hurriedly said that it must be done right away.. so I did it.. then they sent the form back saying that they've changed everything and I need a new form and I don't have to enrol until my first day at college!

So I think it's all up in the air at the moment, but I think everyone's in the same boat so don't worry!

I have recently been in for an interview for a student nurse position and because they have some on the course already I wouldn’t be able to start till a least January possibly even September 2011!

But look on the bright side, at least you have a job that will train you and when the time to go on the course comes you will have had a head start as you could be studying now at your pace and you can ask others about their experiences in the new level 3 so you know what to expect when its your turn.

Hi Emma,

I think this is the way the RCVS want to run things now - it has been the case that degree route students all enrolled at the start of their degree, and they have decided for this new scheme that the same will apply for students commencing training from this academic year onwards.

Whilst you cannot start actually performing tasks, there is no reason why you cannot start learning theoretically, and for your coach to be discussing and demonstrating tasks to you. You can then log these once you are enrolled and have your NPL and you can start to practice.

Don't see it as a set-back - see it as an opportunity to take some time to start learning the theory, to prepare yourself for the actual practice, and have a better understanding!
