I'm sure once I get my break I'll be jumping off roof tops and screaming my head off in joy for about 3 weeks straight lol and good luck vicky!! Well I've had to give up going to college this year because I haven't got the finances at the moment I hope that things will get better in the next 2 years and then I'll go back and qualify :) So don't give up just try and save up :) don't matter even if its just a pound a month! that's what I'll be doing... I might be sixty by the time I get everything in order but I WILL be a vet nurse! lol

Re: training &placements....
I can also sympathise, Ive already got depression and its making it worse, I've been looking for the past 5 years and after recently sending out 60 CVs have had nothing but no-thanks and the job interviews that i have had have sed that i havent got enough experience after working in a vets for 4 years!!! Anyway, I have got a job interview on tuesday for trainee VN fingers crossed coz if this doesnt come through Im going to have to give up my dream for financial reasons. Good luck

Re: training &placements.... Then lost the job a year ago due to the practice's financial situation.
Been looking ever since but the new rules have made it worse (in my opinion), and there's no jobs locally and very few across the country....
So in the meantime the RCVS loss is the NHS gain, and like several others I have switched across, and will probably never fulfil my dream as I just can't get a place (with my experience in practices, HND etc, still no-one wants me )
and being the only breadwinner keeping a roof over our heads, there's no way I can do it the degree way with unpaid placements unfortunately.

Re: training &placements....
10 years Ive been trying, first it was trying to get work experience placements at college, then volunteer placements whilst I worked at rescue centre, then tried getting a volunteer place when I worked at the zoo (was offered a place but my rota was so unpredictable at the zoo I had to leave the vets :( ). Now Im unemployed because the last few months I have been harrassed, so couldnt even do volunteer work then :(

I added up how many rejection letters I got just from the last 6 months alone and it was 160! Imagine how much money I spent on stamps, lol!

I was very lucky to have had an interview last monday for SVN, the lovely lady asked why I hadnt got a place in all this time, and I nearly just burst into tears there and then! I was so nervous at the interview, 10 years to get this 1 interview, I was so terrified.

I doubt Ill get the job, god knows I will work so freakin hard to finally get to be a VN, but I know the fact I have not been able to get a volunteer place and therefore my lack of clinical experience will be held against me.

So I understand exactly where you are coming from, and please dont give up! I cant give up now, so you cant either :p Lets just keep going. It might take me another 10, 20 or 30 years to get there, but I will get there, And so will you :)

Re: training &placements....
It can be soul destroying to keep getting rejection letters, but do not let them put you off! It's their loss after all if they don't employ you!

You will get there!

There are lots of fabulous, inspiring stories of people in your position on here - if you are truly determined your time will come - just keep plugging away with those CV's, covering letters, offers of free labour etc - you WILL get there!

Best of British!

Re: training &placements....
