I had a white rex in the past (dont ask what sort of rex because I have no idea except he was bald - born to a DSH and all the other kittens in the litter had hair) he lives with a friend now and is called maggot.

Siamese I have had two Jason and Simon - both very noisy cats

My favourite breed would have to be Maine Coons - I had a blue called 'Blue' ( very original I know!) and a great big black beast called Boris who we think was probably responsible for the 'black cat sightings' in Market Rasen area in the early 90's

Son is very much a people cat - loves fuss and attention, and just a slow blink from me will bring him running with his purrometer at 110% However he has been lame recently, and vet exam found crepitus (mild) in the hips, and bilateral luxating patellas He is just over 2 yrs old.

One relatively healthy (she has polops in her ears, which have caused over-production in wax leading to a heamatoma) and thats it. Recent full bloods and urine screen shows a healthy cat who's 10yrs. While the other....

My fav wee boy bengal, Blue eyed snow marble

1. day 1, mum punctured 1 testical sack trip to vets and antibiotics

Should of sold him then really, but kept him as he was the only 1 in the litter.

2. Skin rash down front legs, no known cause

3. Injection site reaction into the muscle, required surgical intervention

4. Struvites in the urine, 2 days later blocked bladder

5. anal gland issues leading to the removel of 1 side

6. IBD type condition, he was on 20mg preds borderline diabetic at one point and still producing di+, finally managed on leukaran/hydrox combination (although he's had a flare up after 2 years)

7. while on high steriods, got random bumps on head, adv by histopaths that they couldn't quite figure out what was going on but the steriods should sort it (but he was on them before the bumps appeared....)

8. Suspected begnine eye tumour type thing, been told not to worry unless the blemish gets bigger and raised.

9. Renal failure found on routine blood test at start of year. Getting worse, scanned, he has a tiny kidney, and a large kidney to compensate. He also has a nice FAT kidney stone in it. Decliend surgury as I've decided to let him enjoy what he has left of life (he's currently lost weight and crea got worse, and needs sedation to get bloods => sed makes kidneys worse and I just can't do that to him)

So now I'm keeping him comfortable and happy until the time comes. He's currently sat on his donut bed and blue blanket but it's scary how skinny he's become this year :( He's only 9 as well! I think that's the list of his issues, other than the needle phobia, his attachment to me, and his strange habit of falling off things for no reason.

Must say, I love Bengals, and although I'm a proper cat person I think my future cats might be Bengals again.

Re: Purebred or cross?....cats this time

I've got 2 Selkirk Rex, and a long-haired moggy. They're all great, but the Selkirks are soooo laid back, they take everything in their stride. The girl is a blood donor. The moggy was a stray, and the Selkirk's are ex-breeding stock, the breeder loved them to bits, but the girl lost a litter and the boy didn't really like girls so she rehomed them to me at 18months of age. The boy was blood typed to be a donor (he's B type) but he's got a heart condition so can't be used now. His heart condition is caused by a valve partially obstructing and causes breathlessness and syncope - he's had one scan to diagnose, we're going to do a further scan in a few weeks to find out a bit more. The breeder is devastated(she didn't know he had it, i only found out when he was playing with Da Bird - he'd never exerted himself so much when he was at the breeders!), but there's no proof it's hereditary, the only way to find out would be to scan his parents, but they're both neutered now so the breeder hasn't had them scanned until we know more.

I love the Selkirks, and i'd have another if there were more needing a home. But i do love moggies, so any cat that needs a home would be my choice regardless of breed

Re: Purebred or cross?....cats this time

I have 2 moggies and two pedigrees all are 2nd hand/rescues- 1x La Perm and 1 x Persian.

Can't beat their big fat munchy faces

Re: Purebred or cross?....cats this time

Six Maine Coons, was breeding them but haven't for a while, show now and again. All bar one female now neutered. HCM is THE disease though I really don't know if it's any more prevalent than in other breeds - it's just that MCs were the first to be studied.

Re: Purebred or cross?....cats this time

I have both, two moggies and a siamese. all rescue (all saved from pts!) and although im a moggy person i do love pedigrees aswell but would always rescue first, i go to cat shows and know some fantastic breeders but i hate back yard breeders!

My siamese is very "delicate" and has a sensitive tum, his insurance costs a fortune aswell but i love orientals now

Re: Purebred or cross?....cats this time

I have both, and 2 are rescues.

Re: Purebred or cross?....cats this time

I've got both, all except one are rescues.
