I started with running with the dogs tied to my waist and them with lines and harnesses (one at a time then together once they got the hang of running with out stopping and sniffing)- ie canix (canicross)- another fab sport for dogs and people! So I could teach them the basic commands- left, right, steady and on by. (see snowpawstore how to section). Have you looked at the british mushers website? There may be a local canix/mushers group you could join for help and info. As mine are not northern breeds I can't join a lot of those things which is a shame.

I've taught mine to walk nicely on collars and to pull and run when in harness. I like the Manmat harness better than the xback as my dogs are deep chested but narrow. Norkern do a good pulling harness as well.

Be aware you cannot take scooters or rigs on the road and you will need a permit to use forestry commission land- they are straight forward to get I think. I use cycle tracks- no idea if I'm allowed but no one has stopped me!

Ooh bikejoring (?spelling?) may be for you if you have a bike!

Re: Meet dexter =) my siberian husky

that is one gorgeous dog

Re: Meet dexter =) my siberian husky

funkyfish i have been investigating husky scootering and thought id start off with a skateboard just to get him introduced but i have found a scooter in the argos that i think would be a cheap way to start, number 925/0662, have a look see what you think, but its lightweight and i think would get him used to pulling something =) cant wait! plus it has bigger wheels than a normal push scooter so i wont go head over *** when we come to a curb!! lol

il keep you updated! obviously he wont be able to start for two weeks coz of his op tomorrow
