Got fed up of bum washing. She loved the taste too, Kevin was trying to lick it off her lips when I put her back in!! Jut cant believe the run of bad luck with my pigs at the moment. Kevins abscess is not doing well, still getting pus out despite still being on abs so just keeping up with expressing and flushing it and keeping him on metacam to keep him comfy as without that hes miserable, and will keep him going as long as he stays happy :((

Re: Guinea pig diarrhoea - help!

What about some of the pro-fibre paste? I think that's what it's called....made by protexin. I've used that on mine before.

Re: Guinea pig diarrhoea - help!

Colleen is doing ok and is back to normal in herself but he poo's are still quite changeable. We are getting a mix of solid pellets but also some softer ones - not watery just squishy. I am still giving her avipro and also giving fibreplex paste now. Any ideas - just time? Still only giving minimal greens and no fruit or salad items, plenty of hay etc. Dont know if just expecting too much too soon considering how bad she was or is there anything else I can give?

Re: Guinea pig diarrhoea - help!

Hi, we have just had a solid pellet!! Yippee! I kept syringing the avipro into her yesterday, gave her plenty of hay and just a few stemy greens, I also gave her quarter of a human diacalm tablet out of desperation as it was pouring out of her yesterday pm and she was going flat so thought it was do or die and the guinea rescue I had them from says she uses it in desperate situations. Think I will stick with minumum greens and avipro for a few days before reintroducing the rest of the veg. I'm having such a run of bad luck with mine at the moment - felt like I spent all weekend cleaning bums, abscesses or giving meds!!

Re: Guinea pig diarrhoea - help!

I would get some pre/probiotics into her too - Protexin Bio Lapis is my favourite, my GPs used to love it - would tug the syringe off my hand!

Re: Guinea pig diarrhoea - help!

Hope things have improved.

Critical care formula is great for oral fluid therapy, hay or 'long fibred' greens (e.g. dandelion) are useful, also the oxbow herbivore is really good and can be syringe fed if they're not eating on their own.

Re: Guinea pig diarrhoea - help!

I had a g-pig that had bloody diarrhoea and my vet told me to syringe her critical care, cut out all veg and just feed hay. She was a tiny baby so I gave her sub cut fluids aswell to keep her hydrated. She got better in a couple of days. Hope she gets better soon!
