We currently make up hibiscrub swabs for skin prep prior to taking blood samples/placing catheters etc. which are stored in tupperware boxes. obviously

Re: skin prep

![quote user="Sal the 1st"]

We used to make up 5 litres which would last for a couple of weeks.

With regards to toxicity in kitties. I've been told that if its not diluted correctly or used on open wounds. Plus oral ingestion can cause problems too.

Re: skin prep

Do you make your Hibitane/spirit/water up daily?
Hi Nick

Question for ya -- one of my colleagues went to a bvna cpd last weekend and was told by the speaker that Hibitane was toxic to cats as it's a phenol (like Dettol) and we shouldn't be using it

I did a lot of research recently into skin prep (mainly from this site to be honest !) plus Coshh datasheets etc and I can't find anything to confirm it, we use the hibitane as a final skin wash before op and dilute it as you advise above

Have you heard anything ?

Cheers
