Good to get other peoples opinions on it all.

Re: Exercise and puppies

Same as above. And I always remind clients that brain exercise will tire a puppy out quicker and better than physical exercise, so if a puppy is really bouncing off the walls do some training rather than a 5mile hike!

Re: Exercise and puppies

[quote user="Mrs Dot Dot' Tracey Plant RVN MBVNA"]

I always say 1st off, use your common sense! And then as a guideline allow approx 5 mins per month of their life for actual walking etc... this doesn't take into account them running/ playing on their own in the house/ garden etc. Also emphasise not encouraging them to race/ run / play / fetch balls/ toys for more than a few goes at a time because this just puts extra pressure on young, forming soft bones and joints. I really emphasise this for large breed dogs eg anything over 25kg as an adult.

Basically be careful, feed a correct balanced diet... ie large breed puppy food over 25kg, and don't worry too much if occassionally these guidelines aren't always followed.

Hopefully this is similar to other peoples school of thought/ advice but would be interested to hear if anyone has better/ more up to date advice or strongly disagrees

I advise the same,

Re: Exercise and puppies

I always say 1st off, use your common sense!
