Can any body offer any suggestions please. I took my 11 month old cat to work today as normal for her on a tuesday. She sits under the desk on reception and does not show any signs of stress.
She is not diabetic and gets fed dry WD as she has

Re: blood glucose @3.8 1 hour after feeding

Hi,

Took her with me to work today and the senior vet decided against bloods as she is being fed dry wd which has a high glycemic index and may not trigger a surge in insulin. She appears well and healthy so gonna get a urine sample and go from there.

Thanks again for your help

I dont belive she has DM as I would expect a double figure reading that close to eatting but a little concerned so I have arranged to run a general health profile tommorow at work and to get a urine sample.

The blood came directly from her ear pinna so there was no delay in testing the blood.

She is my special girl as I hand reared her from birth having resusitated her 3 times and nearly given up on her so I may just be being a paranoid owner.

Not connected but when she was 5 weeks old I woke up to finding her collapsed and just going blue so rushed her off to work and nothing was diagnosed after a quick ultrasound of her abdominal cavity she was given vetergesic and 20 mins later was up and running around again like nothing had happened.

Will let you know what the results are tommorow and thank you again.

I would def run full profile to check everything else do a cystocentesis to get sterile urine sample so can send away for culture as well as dip/SG and then possible do some imaging if you are concerned.

Re: blood glucose @3.8 1 hour after feeding

Its probably the ovvious thing, but how old was the blood sample?
But also, surely Polydypsia is a sign of high BG, so the two would not correlate??

Re: blood glucose @3.8 1 hour after feeding

a fructosamine is likely to be more useful than a glucose curve for diagnosing DM - they are notoriously unrealible, especially in cats.

Re: blood glucose @3.8 1 hour after feeding

have u run a full glucose curve to get a full pic ?

Re: blood glucose @3.8 1 hour after feeding

Hmmmm I would prob say run full bloods on her to see if there is anything else going on there such as liver issues etc. Some liver disease (if i remember right) can cause hypoglycaemia....we recently had a hypoglycaemic beast in but can't remember what we found....can check tomorrow for you.
