If the owner requests it fair enough but if not its a bad enough job being the bearer of bad news without suggesting pm as well. - its just too much for some people to take.
Have been in situations where a p.m has been suggested to clients and majority of the time the clients have actually used those words- 'I dont want him/her hacked up'.

I have to say I find p.m useful at times but when it comes down to it Im not sure I would be able to let someone do one on my animals-would depend on circumstances etc etc.

sorry wasnt meant nastily at all - was just an observation that maybe pm wasnt carried out because owner didnt want it?

whilst it would be interesting to find the cause a pm may not have given a definitive answer. whilst it might give an indication on the condition of vital organs it may not in all cases be able to give an indication on what caused an organ to fail.
surely if that was the case the OP would have said this? But they didn't so I continued to reply... I was only asking how they came about with their diagnosis of how the kitten died and why they thought it was renal failure. I then asked if they hadn't done a PM why not do one to see what they find. I'm fully aware of the possible outcomes of a pm and that they are not always telling. but they're still fascinating and sometimes very enlightening.

Re: Renal Failure in Kittens

sorry wasnt meant nastily at all - was just an observation that maybe pm wasnt carried out because owner didnt want it?

um, ok. i guess it wouldn't be interesting to find out what might have been the catalyst for the renal failure, possibly another organ not doing it's job, or deformity or getting a tox screen. sorry i like science... i was dissecting caterpillars at 8 and had my own microscope! :P

Re: Renal Failure in Kittens

i think with the blood/urine results it can be safely assumed that the kit had renal failure without needing to go for pm as well

Re: Renal Failure in Kittens
