The practice I work at does dental referrals. We do quite a lot of root canals. We are in Studley.

Hi,

I don't work in a dental practice but I am an owner who has paid out for rooth canal treatment on a canine and was really pleased with the work (Vet: based in Bangor, Wales - Barbour something or other - really cheap too - I think I paid £300 although this was c2000). I got a referral for another dog's broken tooth last year but unfortunately he was unable to save the tooth (Vet: Norman Johnston - much more experience but I was also very pleased with his service). I have also had a dog's canine capped - which was a waste of time (Vet: not mentioned!)!

I wouldn't bother for something like a canine but for a more substantial tooth I would always prefer root canal treatment to removal - I worry that removing the tooth will weaken the jaw plus it is such brutal surgery!

My little dog has got a few incisors missing and doesn't have any problems at all. She does have a funny smile though

Thanks everyone, my boss is friends with Alex Smithson so will prob get him to have a word with him. Just want an opinion from someone who does it really as to whether its worth it as some sites talk about trying to preserve teeth where possible, but not sure itrs worth it for an incisor - can see why you would with a canine etc. Thanks again - those pics are impressive Caro

Depending where you are in the country. I locummed at Chess Veterinary Clinic in Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire and they have a dental referral vet there. I assisted on root canal tx of a Golden Retriever whilst there.

For the life of me I can't remember the vet's name.

Ditto to the above but Oakbeck Veterinary Group in Harrogate do dental referrals. Bob Partridge is the partner there.
