I think the easiest way to work it out would be:

calculate what consumables you anticipate using, cost + VAT + markup
calculate cost per hour of staff who will be in the room i.e vet + 2 nurses
calculate what you feel your theatre is worth, i.e to heat, clean, sterilise equipment?

Just an idea though?

Hi everyone,

Many thanks for the replies. I guess what Im really looking for is theatre fees for our referral small animal surgeon for use of the room, sterilisation fee, use ofr equipment etc.

If you do use one Im wondering what do you base the fee on e.g do you charge for extra swabs, consumables etc.

We have a standard theatre waste and consumables fee of about £10

We also charge a surgical kit cost - about £14 standard, and £35 for orthopeadic stuff

Think thats what some of ours is made up of. We always have 2 nurses in theatre and most of the instruments used by the referral surgeon are double bagged.

we charge a fee if the op was really messy and it is going to take longer than normal to clean and sterilise stuff - only minimal to cover the nurse time involved.

We do have a theatre fee but it is really only charged out when our referral small animal surgeon is carrying out procedures. It gets charged out on top of procedure fees, use of equipment and consumables.
Not sure 100% how it is made up but prob can find out if needed.
We charge-
Theatre fee orthopaedics £133.30
Theatre fee soft tissue £88.41

we just charge GA and procedure fee, except for neuterings which have a GA fee in the price anyway. we then charge for consumables e.g. vicryl, implants etc

I'm not quite sure what you mean? I assume you don't mean for individual procedures, more a calculation of cost for the use of the room...?
