I agree best practice would be a new can per patient, but don't think the bosses would like that hehe!

We were using the powder until very recently when NVS seemed to have none in stock!

Instead we are now using the baritop cans - very messy! To avoid waste, once opened we are decanting them into (new!) plastic bottles labelled with opening date - does anyone know how long its good for once opened?

We freeze our barium, we draw it up into 20ml/10ml and 5ml syringes it only takes about 5 mins to defrost running under hot water. I dont know if this effects it in any way? we have never noticed any problems with doing it this way.

Have you thought of trying to get hold of Gastrograffin

This is iodine based so ideal to use in cases where gut perforation is suspected.

Nothing at the mo, just to have in stock.

Don't do enough to use the cans, as would be throwing after each patient, but dunlops out of powder until who knows when!

dunno I only know them as BIPS (stands for Barium impregnated polyethylene spheres).

what you looking at in the patient???

Never had dealings with Dunlops
