I've had a year out of working as a VN and am just thinking about doing a bit of work as a locum. I don't really know where to start! My main issue is whether I beome

Re: Becoming a locum VN

thanks

To go self emp just apply to the tax office to tell them you are self emp. and what you do also let the NI section know have to tell the 2 of them within 3 months or you get a fine.

I recently worked as a locum between jobs for just over a month

I used Salus as an agency and found them very helpful, I used I4 as an umbrella company to pay tax (paid£22aweek as it was only short term) if you dont use an umbrella company for your tax i believe you need to make yourself a ltd company. but some of the career locums might have more advice on that

I found that most/all the positions are down south, I worked down there and LOVED it, wish I didnt have to leave my last practice but it was too far from home. I found that you dont get involved in any politics, you go and nurse and thats it.

I would definately recommend it, I found also that agencies didnt have "assigned practices" so to speak, they maybe had practices that used them regularly but any practice can use a locum agency therefore i had quite a choice of practices to work at

Hope that helps xx
