-intersting stuff. So it's just the advanced that's covered - those reps are very clever with their wording !!!! although I still like Safe 4 and there must be a reason the QMH use it as their disenfection of choice - anyone care to shed any light on that?

The Alstoe (Virkon) rep told me that Trigene was no longer DEFRA approved - how right he was and that was about 2 years ago. Not sure about calicivirus will have to check the data sheet but Parvo is definately covered.

Ditto Saskia for us. Used to use Trigene for floors, surfaces etc but it is no longer defra approved so moved to Safe4 which is defra approved, used by alot of the uni's and is cheaper - job done!

Trigene is no longer DEFRA approved??? When did this happen and how did you find out?

I heard recently that Safe4 isn't licensed against calicivirus and parvo? but Trigene is?

One vet scrubs with chlorhexadine the other is allergic so uses Povidine -iodine.

we use chlorhexadine for patients surgical scrub unless eyes or mouth then use very dilute povidine-iodine.

sufaces we use trigene for 5 days then virkon for 5 days then swop back to trigene.

floors we use trigene but virkon for isolation.

hibi as hand and op scrub unless we have a locum who is allergic to hibi then we use pov. Trigene for floors and surfaces and Virkon for isolation

For SA we use chlorhexadine for skin prep (vet and patient!), and the LA vets use povidine, again for both. We also use povidine for eye/ear/mouth prep in SA.

we use hibi scrub for patient prep and povidine-iodine for scrubbing up. we think hibi scrub is quite tough on hands so tend to stick to iodine.

we used to use vetaclean for general disinfectant and virkon for more serious stuff but have recently moved on to trigene and we are all loving it!

Hibiscrub and nolvasan (kinder to your hands) for hand scrubs, and scrubbing up patients, Pov for eye ops, Virkon for surfaces and floors and vetaclean Parvo for floors.

Hi!

We use hibiscrub because it's what we've always used and the vets and nurses like!

We do use povidine iodine but only really for prepping for eye or mouth surgery. It isn't used as a skin scrub at all.

We use Trigene as our general disinfectant due to it being easy to use, nice smelling and it works. Had previous problems using Virkon and we didnt like the smell!
