not sure i have put this in the right forum.
I am just about to do a project on importation and the keeping of reptiles as pets for a welfare module. Just looking for opinions from other nurses on views and whether you think that

Re: reptiles

Ah I used to have a bearded dragon called 'Boo'. He was ace but had to rehome him due to not having enough time for him.

I found lots of comflicting advice on the internet, books and local pet shop. Have to say though that the local reptile shop were always happy to have a chat and give advice.

Re: reptiles

i have aquired a beared dragon from a friend at work and before i took on lola i wanted to know everything i could about them because my knowledge was NIL!

i read books, went on the internet etc and went to my local reptile shop to have a chat with them about the posibilty of buying one and they couldnt have been any better. he spent ages talking me through the husbandry of them the right and wrong things to feed, worming, handling, you name it he talked me through it and before he thought he would make a sale he gave me loads of leaflets and told me to go away, have a good read and research befor i commeted myself to getting one so i have to say not all shops are only interested in the cash, some are definatly interested in the walfare of the animals!

so now i am the proud owner of a bearded dragon name Lola who is a delight!!!!

Re: reptiles
its fair to say that at least 95% of the cases we have to take care of have their problems due to their husbandry. Either as a result of the owner being given bad advise when purchasing, being sold a poor specimen or a combination of both.

It can be really soul destroying at times.
Would totally agree with the above comments! Went to a garden centre/pet shop....

Went to buy some fish with my mate, anyways I've always been in interested in the more exoticv pets. We had a look around the reptile dept. of the pet shop and there was a lad wiv a wad of cash in his back pocket asking how much is this one? does it take much looking after? Think the seller was more interested in gettin the cash in the till rather than making sure the perchaser was suitable... It really really winds me up! Felt like butting in and giving him a piece of my mind. Saw the lad moments later in the car park minus anything that resembled a reptile!! Think ppl need to be educated prior to making a puchase, erhter its a mouse or a snake. not to mention the more normal pets. Think things need tightening up. Everyone ain't entiled to own a pet.

Anyways, rant over........ for now!!!!!

Re: reptiles

Hi Emma,

I work in a practice that deals with reptiles and its fair to say that at least 95% of the cases we have to take care of have their problems due to their husbandry.
