I am sorry to hear that TLC - however with a pup so young, suffering from chronic/acute renal failure - if she is not responding to supportive therapy and medical treatment, given her young age, sadly, there isnt much more that can be done for her.

However, her owners alongside the vets DID try their best to save her - thats what counts, hard as it may seem right now, maybe in hindsight, if she is to be euthanased, you will all know that you done everything in your power to help her - and she will know that too.

She took a turn for the worst last night and its looking bad.... they are considering PTS if she doesn't pull through this rut

Poor Jen is a bit frantic - she does't really know all her stats...they are taking bloods regularly and she has IV fluids which she's flushing through really well...she thinks the vet said that they will try to make her comfortable for the next few weeks and they told her that Peroni will never live to a ripe old age......think she's coming home next week....mango (the pups sister) isn't coping very well at all...she just barks when they put her in her cage as there's no Peroni to snuggle into... I've told her all the usual puppy comforts i can. but she misses her sis too much. poor lil girls

I have known animals with only 1 kidney, and in fact a person too, and the body can function fine with only 1 kidney. The blood values are important, ideally with urine concentration, pr:cr ratio etc. It does unfotunately sound congenital. I have also seen this in a boxer that didnt survive.

how much smaller? have the performed ultrasound with a competant ultrasonographer?

what are the renal values?

have they done a creatinine clearance test?

it does sound congenital but we have had a westie in who only has one kidney (found incidentally on a ultrasound) who is bright as anything

Sounds like a congenital thing, doesnt sound good news. Seen something similar in a boxer it didnt survive
