I am trying to write a protocol on the above, but would like a bit of guidance on the "standard" methods, as I'm not too sure if my method is the accepted method! Especially on sharpening / frequency of sharpening.

Re: Care, Use and Sharpening of Dental Instruments

we clean, autoclave and sharpen after each use.
hi, on the same note, do you know where the arkansaw or any other sharpener can be found, ta

[/quote]

Have you tried JAK? They used to sell sharpening stones.

Re: Care, Use and Sharpening of Dental Instruments

hi, on the same note, do you know where the arkansaw or any other sharpener can be found, ta

Re: Care, Use and Sharpening of Dental Instruments

Thanks, thats interesting. I have always autoclaved after each use and only sharpen as and when required. Probably should have a routine sharpening schedule!

Re: Care, Use and Sharpening of Dental Instruments

We don't have anything written but this is what we do-

Sharpen after each use.
Cold sterilise in meddis after each use.
Place instrument protector tips on and store in an instrument box.
Autoclave once a month.

Not sure if this is correct but it works for us! We used to autoclave after each use but were told that this blunts the instruments.

Hope that helps a little
