We saw it twice and our vet was not sure what the problem was after x rays. There was a forum on the problem on this website which I told him about so he used steriods. Owner didnt want spinal tap. It was better within 24hrs. It has a relapse every 4-5 mths and the steriods always put it back on form.

As far as i can remember as not seen one in a while is that patients that the owners could afford it used to have spinal taps done and tested for meningitisey type things and others were jus given steriods i think but not 100% sure!

Re: Beagle Pain Syndrome

Hi Nicky, that'd be great if you could find out for me!

Re: Beagle Pain Syndrome

Hi, we had a young beagle with this. We did spinal taps to confirm diagnosis, cant remember what they were sent off for though - poss just cytology?? I know it was tested as a meningitis case. Responded really well to meds, had a slight relapse a few weeks ago but responded well again. Boss expecting it to outgrow it by about 18 mths think.
Yep it affects beagles! Apparently its a meningitis type thing. The beagle we have in has been kind of sickly since he was little (6 - 7 months old now). He has regular bouts of being unwell lasting two or three days at a time, then he's back to normal. When he's unwell he tends to be dull and depressed, stiff/sore/unwilling to move, with a high temperature. Our vets were kind of stumped with him as he kept appearing to respond to treatment then would be back within days. The owners contacted the Beagle society (or something lol) and they said to consider it.

[/quote]

sounds very similar to TNS in Border Collies which one of the vets at work 'volunteered' me to research as I took the original call from the client

Re: Beagle Pain Syndrome

Awww fingers crossed for him, and keep us updated with how it goes, prognoses etc, I love interesting cases! x

Re: Beagle Pain Syndrome

Yeah its a real shame, he's such a lovely wee thing!
