Quite interested in the bit about co2 absorbers. We use a circle for big dogs - what does it mean by do not use if soda lime has been allowed to completely dry out?? Also it says not to rely on the colour change - I look for colour change, should we be changing it even if colour not changed?

Re: Iso to sevo

Hmm. Didnot realise not licensed for cats or pregnant bitches. If we swop we will swop everything, and not have both so this is a problem!!!

I absolutely hate masking down cats unless it really is unaviodable - besides being very unpleasant for the cat the H+S for us is pretty dodgy. I worked for a year at a practice where cats were automatically masked down rather than injectable - yes it works fast and they recover fast, but often that is the last time you will get near that cat to do anything to it!

I think that's really bad that a practice does it automatically!! We only do it if a cat is being very bad and we have no chance of getting IV access.
I personally think masked inductions should be avoided at all cost. The patient can become quite distressed and in rabbits breath holding is normally seen. IV induction is far less stressful for all concerned and with the amount of pregnant staff about the profession currently better for the H&E bods!

Re: Iso to sevo
it's not licensed for cats, or pregnant bitches either. I have to admit I dont really have preference! It obviusly has its advantages .......quicker recovery etc. But beware I was turning off too early until I got used to it (fine noe though).

We did have a week where lots of animals vomitted after surgery but since then we havnt had a problem (maybe a bad batch)?

Masking down was ment to be an advantage, however you can still see animals protesting.

dont really have anything bad to say about it other than its expense. Our rep is fab too, that helps

Re: Iso to sevo

We use both at my practice.
