I was just wandering if anyone had noticed any animals who seem to find the Propoclear painful when injected?
I know that it is indicateed to be painful on rare occasions when it goes perivascular. We have had a few occasions recently that dogs

Re: Propoclear- Injection reactions.

Hi,

Yes we have noticed this at our practice too when we have a trial of it a few weeks ago. Some of our vets also didnt like the thickness of the Propoclear too, and didnt like the resistance it gave when being injected.

The only reaction that we have had is the pain on injection. We haven't noticed the breath holding as all our patients are put onto a ventilator. We haven't noticed them waking up any quicker compared to the normal propofol.

We will try warming the Propoclear first see if that makes a difference (we have never used it when its has gone cold and very cloudy tho).

On the occasion that the dog howled the other day when we started to give it we set up the i/v fluids and run the propoclear through the drip line and this seemed to be more comforatble for the patient, so that might be worth considering for those practices that are going to stick with it.

ALL our patients get an I/V catheter placed prior to induction (don't like the idea of off the needle inductions) have seen reaction in a few patients (much like those seen with the new multi-inject bottles of vetergesic), ie some react and others don't.
If Propoclear is kept in cool places it will go cloudy and precipitate. This should NOT be injected.
