I tried her on loads of different diets over the years - exclusion diets you name it and nothing dietwise seemed to make one iota of difference, as I say when everything else had been ruled out I got the best results with peridale to regulate motion consistency. She was a happy little cat, never appeared to suffer any discomfort from it, and her abdo never appeared to be sore when examined. She was prone to furballs

She lived to a ripe old age of 21 1/2 years - it was hyperthyroidism and renal failure that eventually finished her off.

What does your vet think?

Re: IBS?

Hi Sal,

Yes the blood does appear to be on the outside of the stool. one min she is constipated then the next she has diarrhoea/soft pool of stools. Stoped giving her lax-a-paste a week ago as she was very runny. Last friday hard stool no blood rest of the week formed soft stool blood every other day then last nite soft stool with blood streaks and a very small clot.

Many thanks

Quite a lot of investigation was carried out at various times (including AHT)and no problem was ever found. She never lost that much blood was usually just the odd surface spot.Parasites etc were all ruled out. I ended up using either peridale paste or capsules when I noticed her getting even slightly constipated and that just about stopped things

Re: IBS?

I was going to ask if she had had faecal analysis done (would be my 1st thing) i would prob try the hypoallergenic diet next to rule out any allergies

Re: IBS?

Hi steph,

Another one to try might be a cereal free or gluten free diet. But for an all the sudden onset problem sounds more like TF or Giardia. Which can be easily missed and sometimes mistaken for!

Re: IBS?

Have you tested for tritrichomonas foetus?

What about trying a raw diet?

I have some leaflets regarding testing for TF and what not if you would like it.
