It states on our bags to keep out of light. We always inject the metronidazole into the animals fluid bag.

We wrap our drip bags in duck tape, much cheaper than vet wrap and more on a roll.

must check 2mo, im worried now, never covered them, although I cant remember reading it, ours comes in clear bags but then are kept in the fridge so I suppose this is dark!?

It comes in 100ml bags Cat woman. Can either be used straight from the bag thru a giving set or used to spike the patient's already running fluids or via a syringe driver!

Never seen metronidazole used iv. Doesn't it come in pre-made drip bags? Or is this what everyone is talking about! I feel left out.

Ours used to come in just a clear plastic wrapper but is now supplied in a padded envelope. It's weird that some have to be kept out of light written on them and others don't. Will have a look tomorrow at what brand ours is because it definately says it on the actual bag to keep out of light.

ours does not say to protect from light and doesnot come in any packing other then the stuff on the outer of fluid bags.

agree it is metaclop. needs covering. And at pm always end up giving metronidazole in x3 boluses over an hr

we never do it at the place I work now. we have a syringe driver so never need to add it bags, and have had the debate regarding light protection before, and the general consensus was that if strictly needed then they would use a brown plastic/dark coloured packaging.

however there will be vets who insist on having it covered regardless, as at my old place, so the tips still help! the times we use the black bags now are for MLK CRI/S etc

I have to say I agree with Frog and cat mad. The data sheets do not mention anything about protecting metronidazole from light. Surely if this was necessary it would be manufactured in a dark bag.

Another fab idea, again one i've never thought of! Our metronidazole comes in a padded envelope so could use that!

We wrap in dark vet wrap and label. Always make me wonder why they dont provide it in dark packaging.

Yeah mean metronidazole. If you look on the packet it says protect from light. We don't have a syringe driver so have to put it in drip bag.

we never add metronidazole to a drip bag and never known it needing protection from the light.....do you mean metoclopromide? cos that is given as a a CRI and has to be protected from the light

if metronidazole is given IV we just put in syringe driver and administer over 30 mins

Have you considered padded envelopes! Thats what we use and it works a treat - reuse the ones that are sent to us! and really easy to label!

They were big red ones that you had to write everything on. Don't know where they came from but never had a problem with them falling off.

We wrap ours in VetRap and label it but you can get drip bag covers

Sounds about right!

Same with morphine CRI as it aint got any preservative in it, just to remember to label the bag so others know what is in it
