Spoke to Alyson's receptionist but the phone line kept cutting off due to building work, but eventually got my number across, haven't heard back though, and the receptionist said there was only a branch reception job available at the moment...

applied to medivet, but looks like another member got the jump and got a job straight away - hopefully might get somewhere with the other two areas they advertised on their website.

applied to two other TP's outside Kent, who have jobs advertised....but getting rather despondent now, as time is looming where I need to earn more than two part time jobs (hubby can't get work and so one of us MUST get a job by end of May), so am considering part time (to fit in with my current work though as wouldn't be beneficial, unless an actual trainee position), ad-hoc bank work as needed, full time, trainee, experienced, night auxillary, reception, kennel maid, scrub room, anything really as long as I get some profit after deducting petrol to get to the job. Just because I'm older, and have an HND doesn't mean I'm not happy to start at the bottom, and I adapt well to any situation, along with a cheerful demeanour and a wicked sense of humour.

Follow it up with a phone call, and then check in a few weeks later, and a few weeks after that etc - and offer to do voluntary work - I have found jobs this way, purely through persistence (or annoying the receptionists hehe )

Good luck!

Re: student nurse placement wanted.

I'm in Kent - but looking anywhere in the country where I have friends I could stay with.
Currently working in Kent and Hertfordshire in two part time jobs.
Looking for 1st year placement either full or part time. Have 2 1/2 years practice experience doing just about all the jobs a 1st year would be trained to do, and some 2nd year type work (monitoring anaesthetics, blood testing etc).
Have passed vet nursing exams (>80% on each of two exams) as part of HND Animal Management.
No-one locally offers me interviews - probably too old at 46.....
Practices outside Kent offer me interviews, so places I wasn't keen on, others I had nowhere to stay so didn't take up the interview offer.
I am registered with three job agencies and despite me chasing them or them contacting me to see if I am still job searching, in 3 years not one job interview has been offered.
Need people to pass on Kent adverts if I don't spot them on various websites (can't afford to subscribe to veterinary publications and don't get to see them at work). Or need to get wind of places that don't actually advertise (or advertise in obscure places), and somehow get my CV onto that shortlist for interview. I know I can do the job, would be a great asset to a practice, but can't get them to look at my CV or to find out how/when they need a trainee.

I now desperately need extra work (husband has bene made redundant so we have very little income now) so have chased possible locum work and want any work in any practice in Kent part time to increase earnings and experience while I wait for a trainee place. But again it's either qualified VN work, or jobs like reception work which I'm more than happy to do but practices seem to want non nursing experience and youngsters (why pay me more minimum wage for a job that 17 year olds can do just as well?)

I guess (apart from age, and different experience levels) Sophie is looking for the same sort of help, those elusive job adverts, or tips how to get the CV to the top of the list when sometimes over 100 people apply for the jobs. She must see the same local papers I do, and probably many of the same internet job adverts - but whereas people say there's loads of jobs keep cropping up in Kent, I wish I knew where.

I live near you and have been trying seriously for nearly 3 years, and occasionally for the 2 before that.

There were 2 near Maidstone before Christmas but neither ever replied to my CV applications. Companion Care in Broadstairs had one place last year but I didn't get an interview, as did White Mills Ash, Barrow Hill Ashford.

There seem to be more adverts outside of Kent than inside so if you are able to travel, relocate, try to look around the M25 - there's quite a few in Hertfordshire/Essex that appear.

I used to send CV's to practices but was told by several that it's pointless as when they have a place available, they advertise and then look at the new CV's. One practice also told me that when they get the required number of people to call for interview they don't even look at the rest of the pile - can't blame them as some told me they get over 100 applications for each advert.

This will be my last year of trying as I need to get more work to try and pay off my student loan (and household debts) so will have to change profession if I'm not successful - so I am trying new tactics this year - but of course they all only stand a chance if the placement is there in the first place.

Good luck, hope to meet you at an interview day in the near future....
