1 x 50mg atopica capsule & 9mls of corn oil for a 0.5% solution

that's the most common one I used to make that I can remember, I'm sure other people will know the more concentrated solutions!

We've only got one client on it, and as we only order one every three/four months, we dont have any alocated to us.. so, the client has singed a form and vet has made up Cyclosporin /corn oil. Dont know much about it, as the vet made it up and read all info, but I can find out...

Regularly used the corn oil/neoral preparation in old practice...

As long as you get the client to sign off license/label use I can't see any major problems...

Have used the Neoral (Cyclosporin) in vials mixed with Mazola?Spelling? Corn Oil, but it must be corn oil, not Olive oil or cooking oil etc. You should be able to work out the ratio from the optimmune dose, as we used varied mixtures and put them in dropper bottles. Must be kept in the fridge, and yes, this would be off-license and only if optimmune is out of stock. Works out alot cheaper.

I was told that the patent for Optimmune was due to run out soon, though, so there should be lots of alternatives soon to increase the competition & therefore lower the prices, hopefully!

we use atopica/ corn oil to make cyclosporin drops for one of our clients

won't put amounts down incase i get into trouble for handing out DIY instructions to potential non-veterinary people but pm me if you would like to know.

Surely using all of these alternatives are way off label! Long time ago, in a practice far far away ...we used to make up an Optimmune alternative and we had to keep everything so sterile it was scary - never liked doing it and used to avoid it at all costs!

You can also order Neoral from your supplier and with the combination of it and corn oil, makes cyclosporin drops

Yes - I think our vet uses sandimum oil in corn oil as an alternative - but I've never made it up myself.

We spoke to an opthalmologist (way before the optimmune shortage) & she regularly uses something called sandimmune? I also have a recipe that uses atopica capsules (obviously off license etc) works really well. PM me if you want details!

Regardless of availability of Optimmune:

Can you tell us more about your product - how easy it is to apply, any contra-indications, and also how it compares cost-wise with Optimmune.

We have two patients on Optimmune and they are low income clients so cannot really afford Optimmune but our vets did some research and came back with no suitable alternative.

Does anyone else use this product as an alternative already????

Just had the Intervet rep in, he said that you've just to keep ordering stock as normal, as production is up & running again. They have stock and it is being sent out as per your practices usage, so there shouldn't be any shortage.
