I worked in a 1st opinion and referal practice and i came from a general practice, and just learnt on the job, CPD was supported, though if it was really expensive we had to pay some of it personallly too.

we did soft tissue, oncology, radiography, cardiology, medicine, exotics.

Helped that all the vets were really nice too, and everyone went out socially too!

hiya, pref looking around nantwich/northwich way but to be honest id go anywhere i can continue with my career.is there anywhere you would recommend? do you work in referral?

yeah gone from a four roomed extension of a neighbouring practice to large purpose built facility still wiv room to grow!

Yeah totally can be quite challenging at times. but with great support from other members of staff. Have a dedicated anaesthetist so that's helpful for those tricky GAs and can leave the surgeon to get of with things there end.

Plenty of variety of cases too. We started out as just Ortho and neuro referral now we do soft tissue, medicine and anaesthesia too

I would prob mention it in your CV (title and which journal etc), but be prepared to answer questions on it in interview...

Well obviously fewer referral practices than GP so therefore prob a bit more competition for places....

thanks, i have currently wrote an article for a journal would you send that with my cv or just mention i have done one? Thats good to know that referrals keep cv's. are positions hard to come by in your line of work? or is perseverance the key?

To be honest most of the nurses we have taken on have come from general practice, althou when I joined I had prior referral experience.

I think showing that you are keen to undertake furthur learning is a good start.

Also if you are keen on surgery then make sure you mention what sort of patient you are familu;ar with nursing ie either soft tissue, ortho, neuro that sort thing.

Plenty of referral practices in the area so don't think it would do any halm sending out letters and CVs think they are more likely to retain CVs unlike GP places.

hiya,

just wanted to know if it was hard to get a position in our area? would you post a cv even though they may not be recruiting? i take it theres a hierachy if i were fortunate enough to get a position in that i would like to do my diploma. what sort of attributes do they look for in a nurse?
