Don't give up - you can always train, there is no age limit, and maturity is often a bonus.

You'll get there!

Good luck with the baby - it's worth it in the end!!

I had my interview on Tuesday afternoon. it went well although I didnt discuss my pregnancy as I wanted to get a feel for the practice and staff first.

I received a call from the Head Nurse today wanting to check my references and to get me in for a day's work experience with them to see how well i would fit. It was then that I told them about my pregnancy to which they were not best amused!

The rota they work on would have been impossible for me to do anyway with a new born. I asked if they could keep my CV on file and should anything come up thi stime next year or later to give me a call.

At least I found out what it owuld involve et cand I wasnt left wondering what if I had gone for that interview!

Maybe when the baby is a bit older I can try again - never give up on your dream, isnt that what they say?!!

Thanks for the advice anyway!

Debbie

Re: trainee nurse interview

totally agree..go for it!

Thanks so much for the advice. I think that I was able to get this interview as I took an animal care course this past year and gained more work experience in a veterinary practice. My course tutor also wrote a great reference for me which I included with my CV.

I will definitely brush up on all my course work ane experience, I guess it is all about selling yourself. I know what you mean that legally they shouldnt discrimate against you because you are pregnant but then, how do you prove you didnt get the job because you are pregnant? Catch 22!

Great advice on the child care aspect as well - cover all angles and be ready with good answers!

Thanks again - I'll keep you posted on how it goes!

Debbie

Re: trainee nurse interview

Hi Debbie,

You should definitely go for the interview - if it achieves nothing other than giving you excellent experience. The discrimination laws apply to your circumstances, but it would be nigh on impossible to prove if they gave the job to someone else purely due to your pregnancy. However, you never know - they may think you would be perfect for their vacancy!!

Be ready with full explanation of how you would arrange child care, as that would be an important component of proving you can fulfil the role. Give it your all, make sure you take the time to express your dedication to the vocation and any previous experience you have. You would not qualify for SMP as you are already pregnant prior to (potentially) being employed, but you may well qualify for Maternity Allowance, so make sure you look into that too.

Go for it - any interview is always worth goign for. It can help you perfect your interview technique, and also give you insight into the questions posed, and answers to provide.

Hope that helps, and good luck!
