Can anyone tell me where I can volunteer as a qualified vet nurse anywhere in the 3rd world for free. I would like to work and live with the locals

Re: Travelling as a VN

Hmm, I don't know, she did a Round the World trip, volunteered for them in various places includng Malaysia and Australia, then came back to UK and worked for them in London. She's always a little cagey about her work for some reason. Just a private person, I guess?? I registered with VBB, but have never got the chance to join any of their projects.

Just had a look at my Green Volunteers book. I bought it about 10yrs ago when I left Uni and wanted to travel (got as far as the US!) They have updates at www.greenvol.com. Quite a few in South America, might be worth a look? Neutering and vacc projects though hard work would be very rewarding. The IFAW site I found a little difficult to find info on Volunteer work, they had an employment section but say they receive alot of CV's. I wonder did your friend just rock up to the gate when she arrived? I considered applying for that, it looked amazing! Good luck!

Re: Travelling as a VN

Another great possibility for me, thanks Denise - did you do a 6 month stint there and if so was there any language difficulties?
A lot of the projects do require that you pay for your own plane ticket at least so you probably wouldn't get anything completely free. There are lots of projects around though, have a look at http:www.wvs.org.uk
