Hi Denise

I hope you don't mind me dropping in on your forum post. As you will see from my profile I represent a company called VetZ Ltd. We provide not only digital X-ray equipment but also imaging software, easyIMAGE. easyIMAGE makes it possible in the simplest way possible, to not only centralise the images and videos from all imaging devices, for example digital camera, flatbed paper scanner, X-ray, Endoscope and Ultrasound movies to CT and MRI, archive everything to ensure it is backed up , but also makes them available from every workstation in the practice and in answer to your quote above, gives the user the ability to send the images via email (in their original format) or burn to CD or DVD. Both DVD/CD or email include a copy of easyIMAGE viewer, which means the recipient does not have to worry about getting software to view the images or video sent to them and there is no need to degrade the images from their original format.

If you would like to discuss this please do not hesitate to contact me .

Thank you for your time everyone

Regards

you have probably already thought about this Denise? - would one of the companies help towards sponsering the costs for one or maybe they could provide you with an ex demo machine?

[/quote]

Just wondering if anyone is particularly friendly with their digital xray people and felt like sussing out the likelihood for a company like that to want to sponsor or at least help get digital set up in Cambodia- (our rescue centre is home to hundreds of other endangered animals in addition to my 107 bears!) if anyone is even remotely sounding interested I can get in touch and start pushing it further...one day when I get time I can start randomly emailing all the companies but soo much to do at the moment.

Re: Digital Xray set up costs??

thanks for the replies folks..definately worth bearing in mind that the prices may fall in the next couple of years.

Without a doubt the main reason I want to get this set up is for the ability to send xrays elsewhere for proper diagnosis, I have 3 vets, none of which has ever taken or read an xray in their lives and i personally think its pointless anaesthetising animals to xray when there is no chance of a proper diagnosis. With emailing and web discussions they can learn. (we have a fabulous advisory board of highly qualifed zoo vets) We were thinking of getting a volunteer imager out to do a proper workshop with them on diagnostics but we all know how long it takes to be able to read a film properly never mind get up to speed on taking them of a diagnostic quality. They might learn all the theory with a week of workshops but they will not put it into practice enough to gain confidence with practical skills...yes i am aware i could teach them but they have no interest in learning from me (a lowly nurse, they have never even heard of vet nurses before me and refusing to accept that i might be able to teach them something..2 of 3 are still training so without a doubt could still learn a thing or 2 from my years in practice...ah well cest la vie- the best thing i can do is provide as many oppurtunities as i can to help them learn...the old plant a seed and it will grow method.

if any more of you are chatting with your reps from these companys- feel free to find out what the likelihood ofgetting sponsorship maybe?!!

cheers again guys x

Re: Digital Xray set up costs??

I had a conversation with someone at BSAVA this year and they said the costs of digital will come down in the next couple years, when the Japanese & Chinese market gets it. They will be able to mass produce & bring costs down to about a fifth of what they are now.

Re: Digital Xray set up costs??

Hi Denise

We made the move over to digital 2years ago now and i wouldnt want to go back, the whole process is so much better, you can even adjust not quite right rads with the software. We tried a few CR systems and found fuji to be the best (also the most expesive) we have a cheaper one whihc uses a barrel scanner and get on well with it. it has different scan settings for different quality pictures and has been very relaible so far.

The main benifits we have found are:
- great filing system - rads can be found very quckly to compare
- less paper fliling
- less time in xray - more tiem to other things
- no nasty chemicals (includeing smell!)
- we use the dark room for something else!

win win situation - except for the ££ whihc i think wasnt too bad but dont think the partners would tell me if i asked.

The cost of digital might be high but versus the cost and time it will take to pay a technician to fix the machine (unlikely that parts can be sourced), set up manual processing from scratch, and then be stuck with noone willing to use the machine or with the ability to interpret the films....

i have definately thought of approaching a company for sponsorship...what supplier did everyone get their digitals from and ill get the begging emails drawn up!!

Re: Digital Xray set up costs??

Just a small word of advice thou. I love it & if anyone tries to take it away I will chain myself to it! It has only had a couple of minor blips - sorted by switching off & rebooting (only takes a few seconds). After the initial cost of the machine (I will try & find out the cost tomorrow) there are very few running costs. There is no film to buy, or chemicals to worry about. Its so nice to copy rads to disc & send them for second opinions etc (or just e-mail them).
