I think that once we were taken seriously employers would find they would have to pay a salary thats relistic to what we are actually trained and qualified to do

HAHAHAHA very funny!!!

There was an add not so long ago that stated that they had whole cupboard devoted to chocolates and biscuits!!!

I also remember reading a job ad at a referral practice. Listed all the different specialities that the covered and ended with 'plenty of tea and biscuits'

No wonder the public dont take us serious when our work collegues and bosses don't!!!!

hehe, yeah it was funny! And what is so sad is that so many of these adverts are written by our colleagues and not some random person not in the industry...

I did actually go to an interview at one place - it became obvious very quickly after my tour of the practice and speaking to the boss (and listening to another of the bosses bawling a trainee out in an adjoining room whilst I was being interviewed only next door!) that I didnt really want to work there - so I rounded off the interview myself by telling the interviewer that I wasnt that keen on chocolate- I preferred savoury snacks, preferred cold drinks to hot drinks, my favourite cake was Russian slice and I was a mini cheddars addict. I thought he would take the hint!

He didnt he rang me back 2 days later and offered me the job!

(he did find another qualified nurse to fill the position - a friend of mine as it happens,(I did warn her!) she left before the end of her first week so I know it wasnt just me hated the place from first impressions)

I'm with you all... I also don't like when they say "competative salary" - so you have to then phone around and see if its "competative" to your current salary before taking an interest in the position.

Why can't it just be written there?!

But yeah - the cakes and chocolate job adverts I usually glance right over! If there's nothing about the ACTUAL job I can't be bothered with it!

If anyone does apply for a job that has 'cake and chocolate' in the advert, you should list all the cake and chocolate you have eaten during your nursing profession on your CV. Then maybe they would get the hint...........

Shane, I hear ya hun! I started a thread off ages ago to vent my anger and disgust at how we are treated like idiots all the time.

It makes me furious to think I'm not taken seriously as a professional person and that cakes and fucking biscuits will pay the bills. I NEED A DECENT WAGE TO LIVE OFF

I looked in the Vet Times the other week to find the vets jobs where properly laid out with a job description, hours to be worked and a PAY scale!

What do we get... chocolate and fucking biscuits... so when British Gas want me to pay my bill I'll just send em a packet of Hob Knobs and ask em if thas OK?

Completely agree! There was a thread about this a little while back, and the general consensus was that this is the most patronising thing practices can come up with. To think that all VNs/SVNs/NAs want is chocolate and biscuits as opposed to decent pay and working conditions is ridiculous, adverts for vets never have this added so why should we??
