Just wondering if anyone routinely uses Advocate as first line treatment for cat ear mites & if so what the success rate is? Can't say I have seen a great response in the ones we have used it on but we've a client whose cat has the worst mites

Re: Ear mItes in cats

We use canaural 7 days on then 7 days off then 7 days on again and an application of Advocate - never seem to have any recurrence.

Re: Ear mItes in cats

Cheers Steph, have offered to go round & help her medicate to save daily trips to the surgery.
Thanks everyone! There is absolutely no doubt this is mites, his ears were hooching without even microscopy!

Will probably have to look into Stronghold (we did clean his ears out under g/a about 3wks ago too)

Thanks again

Carol

Carol it sounds to me like you might either have a client not being honest with you about how often they put their treatment on OR an environmental problem. Good luck let us know how you get on! :)

Why dont people do it more often??

Its also really good if you can show the owners just what is living in their cats ears - promise you will get 100% compliance with treatment and keeping appointments

Re: Ear mItes in cats

We recommend stronghold and generally clean the ears a couple of times during treatment with a general ear cleaner to clear any debris.

Re: Ear mItes in cats

Haven't used Stronghold in a while, but Advocate was always used successfully for the rescue cats with ear mites.

Re: Ear mItes in cats

We would suggest Stronghold as a first port of call and continue cleaning them with CleanAural!

Re: Ear mItes in cats
have you tried stronghold?
This is what I have used in the past. I found the Advocate just didn't cut it over a period of repetitive use. Not sure if it was resistance or what. I also find cleaning the ears with CleanAural to flush out the debre helps during the process. Unforutunatly because of the way cats think it's hard to avoid the behavioural problems that go with it.

Does this cat go outside? Has the bedding and the area be cleaned and treated as well?(RIP/Indorex etc), hot wash? Do they have the money to have the ears cleaned under sedation?

Poor lil puss, I went through a horrible itchy ears time with my moggie a few years back, vet kept prescribing Canural and Advocate for mites. We got a second opinion elsewhere and found out she didn't even have mites! It was eczema from a food allergy! She's on a hypoallergenic diet now and has immunotherapy injections and no more itchy ears. But to this day will run a mile if she sees a small bottle!

Re: Ear mItes in cats

have you tried stronghold?
