My first guess is that our lovely Nick here is with North West Surgeons? Correct me if I am wrong though lol!!

My greyhound, Saskia, was a racing greyhound before I acquired her, She suffers from arthritis in her left elbow, I had been treating her for at least a year with metacam oral suspension daily, it did do the trick for at least the first 9 months, but she suddenly became lame again. Metacam wasnt working so after consutation with my vet, we decided to change her to carprofen. She is now on carprofen 50mg one and half twice daily and so far, she is doing great - no lameness and no GI disturbances.

Doubt it I'll prob be in theatre with a complicated anaesthestic and if its on a monday prob out in the MRI van! lol

Have you thought about homeopathic therapy being as he's so young and will probably need treatment long term? Was chatting to a friend the other day who has a young rottie that was on NSAI and would have been on these long term, but is apparently doing very well off them and is only on alternative meds atm.

Hope its good news when the x-rays get done x

My dog was diagnosed with mild-moderate hip dysplasia back in oct. He started to become stiff and really slowed down on his walks. He was put on rimadyl which really helped but we started hydrotherapy in June and he is now off the rimadyl completely. Can highly recommend it.

Do you work at north west surgeons nick? We send a few things over to there!

i work with a vet who does acupuncture and this worked well with my dog with hd- she had been on low dose metacam and seraquin for about 5 yrs but we started hills j/d and acupuncture and we were able to stop all meds. (and she turned into a naughty puppy again!!). if you would like to try acupuncture give me a shout, let me know what area you are in and i'm sure my vet will know someone in the area.

Aww thanks Maisy!

Diesel's hips aren't that bad (or so I was told) going off the x-rays, but he's got worse in the last few weeks, i.e definate lameness when walking. I'm paranoid about lame animals as i've got a horse that is lame all the time - lol!

Previcox sounds good. Will wait and see what referral vets say

Previcox is a newer NSAID and in my experience of my dog with HD, this has worked remarkably well (more so than Metacam/Rimadyl which cause GI upset). Regular but controlled exercise is beneficial, hydrotherapy worked well for my dog when he was a bit younger and more agile. For a dog who my vet said had the worst hips he had ever seen, he has done pretty well as he was diagnosed with HD at 3 years, and is now 15!

Hope Diesel does just as well
