Hi Kezzathecat...Why are you no longer going to be a training practice? Curiostity...............

I reply to all letters, even if it is quite late after they are sent in.... I do keep hold of them, but I never say we keep them on file, mainly because I don't want to get peoples hopes up, and we are a small practice so there is usually someone lined up for any potential vaccancies... we do look thru previous CV's if needed.

Ditto, BIGTIME about checking for spellings...especially vetniary among others! and puctuation and capitals in the right place... I feel real old-school these days, looking thru application letters!!

That is my pet hate! I once had one who spelt veterinary five different times in the same letter!!!

We keep most of them of file. The only ones to go straight to the shredder are those who can't be bothered to spellcheck the word veterinary.

We're in the same position as an earlier post, we're looking for someone (perhaps 2) but are no longer going to be a training practice. This may change when the rules change but not for now.

I agree that most practices who actually send you out a letter are probably more likely to keep you details, though there is likely to be lots of others there too so resending the CV is useful. If you have completed any extra work experience/courses etc this will help too, I had a girl send me a CV every 3 months with updates of her work experience and relevant courses which was quite impressive determination!

Good Thanks folks. I got panicky! I dont want to plague places as i don't want to make them cross, but at the same time, i don't want them to lose my cv!

My cv's are checked about 10 times then i get at least two other people to check them too!!

(Thanks Kim i am sooooooo keen to see the new build!!! And i know its a bloody good vets...)

Just a little word of advice for anyone sending letters - please make sure you double check your english and spelling before you send them. Get someone to proof read them first!

As a general rule, any practice that receives a Cv will keep it on file, the ones that fall short on experience etc may be filed seperately but they will still probably be kept. In my experience I have sent my CV to a company and had a letter back stating no roles available and 5 months later got a call for an interview where i got the job.

I would say though that a CV a week in the post is not going to endear you to a prospective employer unless you can find a way to make it different and unique each time.

I think the practices that have actually bothered to reply to your letters, are the ones that would likely keep you letter on file!

I am always skeptical about that line, but I have to say I sent out letters at the end of last year and got a phone call mid April with an interview - I'd forgotten that I even sent them at that point! So don't worry, I'm sure a lot of practices to actually keep your CV on file : )
