My friend took her to the vets yesterday evening and it turned out to be a tooth abscess, so while that's less painful and unusual than strangles, it's a bit rubbish all the same :(

To be honest, I dont know, and have never seen or heard of it in adult dogs, hopefully others on here will be able to tell you more.

I saw strangles in a dogue de bordeux puppy.It's the only time I have seen it, his smln were huge poor thing, and he was on steroids for a good while too.

is that the same as head gland disease, that was one of the first things I saw in my first week as a trainee- a cute black lab.

That is exactly what happened to my black lab years ago when she had her pups, she had mastitis aswell, but her face was swollen to about twice the size! Can mature dogs get it then?

Six puppies born last night and this morning, three bitches and three dogs. All fine and incredibly cute. Swelling is reducing in mum already which is a relief :)

smlns are submandibular lymph nodes, the glands under the jaw.

What's smlns? Bitch is doing well in herself. He thinks she's gone into the first stage of labour now as she's tearing up newspaper and panting a lot. He's got his local emergency vet on speeddial should he be worried at all and I've told him to call them if he's concerned. He's been taking her temp at a few points and that's all been fine.

I'm going out now, but hopefully should hear from him later tonight or tomorrow. Keeping everything crossed :)

swelling isnt associated with smlns is it? How is the bitch in herself? - not something I have seen or heard of before? but if the vet thinks its ok

whole area swollen - tbh it looks more like a tooth abscess. She's now more lopsided and swollen on the lower face and under jaw.

Sorry for disjointed responses, he's emailing me as he's on the other side of the country and I can't get over there :(

Can't say I've heard of this before in pregnant bitches. Is it lumps or is the whole area swollen?
