This is my first ever post, so hi everybody!
I was just thinking of ways of earning extra money to save up for travelling. I wondered if anybody advertises themselves as dog walkers or pet sitters?
I have no idea what the rates of pay are

Re: Dog walking/pet sitting

yes I had heard about this re house calls some time ago - if you are injured by an animal whilst you are on a house call you have little or no comeback with either your insurance or the insurance of the person who the animal and the house belongs to ( I suppose in the case of an employed nurse you could try against the employers insurance?), in fact have heard this used as an excuse by a vs not wanting to carry out a house call - dont know how true this is - wouldnt like to try it out

Re: Dog walking/pet sitting

I was at a CPD thing at weekend and they were saying that if anything went wrong when you were in someone else's house and taking payment for pet sitting then you don't have a leg to stand on it anything went wrong and they choose to sue you. They also said that if you were hurt in their house by their pet then you wouldn't be able to claim anything back as you entered their house knowing that there was a risk involved in pet sitting.

I hadn't heard anything like this before! Made me slightly worried as it may apply to house calls too.

Re: Dog walking/pet sitting

hello welcome,

i have done some pet sitting usually for clients at work, I dont advertise as such but if some1 asks and I like them I will offer. if im staying in their house I charge 20 a day (out of working hours) and if I take the dog to mine i charge 10 a day. I looked on the internet and some companies charge 40!

I am wary though as I dont have any insurance so I am choosey who I atke but also make it clear that if anything happens I will do whats needed until I can contact them.

good little money spinner though.

I did stay at one womans house for 2 weeks and the house was minging - I didnt do it again for a year and a half!

Re: Dog walking/pet sitting

Thanks guys that's been really helpful. They are a really handy service to have available and getting popular mow a days with people working longer days.

To give you an idea i paid 7 pound for a half hour walk or 11 for an hour. The one i used had insurance andalso did pet sitting although not sure how much that cost.
