I was thinking

Re: Best time to be noticed?

Thanks for your replies

I see what you mean about timings, I guess it will be more on luck than anything. I just wondered if there was a more likely time..

I've tried to make my CV stand out - it's a nice black and blue colour, blue trim, makes it stand out.. (I hope lol)

Another thing I guess I'm struggling with is if my CV is any good.. I'm hoping to change careers into this job.. so it's whether my current skills are what they are looking for.

Thanks for the encouragement

Word of warning - we get a hell of a lot of CVs - I am getting approximately one per day at the moment. Try to make your CV different - print it on (pale) coloured paper!!!!!

Re: Best time to be noticed?

my original plans were to contact in January and July after exams. Now though the 2nd year practicals are 4 times a year and (someone can correct me please if I'm wrong!) you can take practical or theory exams in either order.

The biggest problem I've found in the last year is that adverts for trainees are 90%2nd year, and those that are first year are 90% for people already enrolled/done the college year and most of the portfolio!!

So whereas first year meant someone like us who wanted to start training and who had been working in other practices gaining experience while waiting for a TP place, they now tend to mean - sorry but this is the way I see it - getting someone who has had their first year already paid by another practice so they don't have to fork out much before the employee starts their second year.
I fell foul of this with an agency recently, and also with a local practice 1st year place advertised on here. Both wasted a lot of mine and their time before it was finally established that first year really meant "nearly second year".

So please check with the trainee roles what they actually mean to save you getting your hopes up, or wasting valuable time chasing a jo for which they actually never have any intention of interviewing you because you aren't already well into the system.

And there's at leats 20 TP's I've contacted recently who aren't taking anyone on this year because of the credit crunch.

So to answer your questions, time of year these days is not nearly as important as about 3 years ago when I started seriously applying everywhere.

Good luck, though, keep trying and applying/sending out CV's.
