You picked me up wrongly Caro - I meant that Brits use un-qualified staff just like in SA, but over here they can called themselves VNs - I wasn't slagging off SA - more to the point I was slagging off Britain & its lack or recognition for us VNs!!

The only problem is over here in South Africa VN's are not often employed because we have grooms and kennel staff doing it all - including MANY tasks which in Europe a VN would perform. Its called cheap labour. Shane could enlighten me here, but even my own vet has said that VN's battle because its cheaper to hire 'workers'. Sucks actually, thats why i dont see myself working here once im qualified. And when a worker dies, either job related or not, they just hire a new one.... its disposable labour. Sad but true. This is Africa.

Biggest problem will be registering with the South African Veterinary Council to be able to work as a VN, you may well have to sit an exam.

Another problem is that SA government is quite sticky about work visa's, think you can get 3 month ones or maybe 6 month at at push.

Get in contact with the vet nurses association of south africa www.vnasa.co.za ( i think that's the website)They will be able to answer all of your questions
