I was wondering if there were any good vet nursing books that cover microscopy. Improve International have a nurses laboratory processes certificate now if you have anyone in practice that loves it enough to pursue further learning.

Ear cytology is where I started. You're mostly looking for bacteria (cocci, rods) and malassezia.

Blood films are abit more involved. The BSAVA advanced nursing manual is helpful to start, I also have the Atlas of Canine and Feline Peripheral Blood Smears (Small Animal Laboratory Essentials) https://amzn.eu/d/6fcsETi and a copy of Maggi Strois laboratory procedures for veterinary technicians.

Matt Garland and Kostas Papasoulutis have written some good articles about these things also. Matt's articles are on the BVNA website.

RE: Are there any good vet nursing books that cover microscopy?

Carolyn Edwards £50 Amazon voucher on its way for your helpful answer!

RE: Lab book recommendations

This is a great book for urinalysis. It starts with a large section covering everything from the healthy urinary tract to urine collection and urinalysis. It then has a section of colour plates of cells, crystals, casts, etc. They include the stain used and magnification, which I find very useful. It's an old book (1999) so the sections on treatment should be viewed with caution, but I think it should suit your needs. I got my copy on eBay, for much less than the £59 Amazon is asking for!
