One person heats it up the other doesn't, one does 6 mins, the other does 12. Does anyone

RE: Ultrasonic cleaner instructions

Hey all, remember to make sure you have completed at least your basic qualifications in your profile (where and when qualified) and subscribed to the digest (Questions Digest), and you will be in the running for an amazon voucher this month!

jenni99, Alice Weaver, Eve Burns and Selena Carnell

RE: Ultrasonic cleaner instructions

great than you i will look in to this

RE: Ultrasonic cleaner instructions

I googled this quickly and you can purchase proprietary test strips for ultrasonic cleaners, although they seem quite expensive! Might be a good way to test the different methods being used in practice to see which works best?

https://ultrawave.co.uk/product/stf-load-check-indicator-strips-pack-of-100/

Also, it seems I didn’t imagine the’foil test’ that I mentioned before! There are lots of websites and YouTube videos about this and how to run one to check the efficiency of your equipment.

https://youtu.be/7SGIcG1QJAA?si=kLokTaVBaqACpmGx

RE: Ultrasonic cleaner instructions

I agree with Jenni. We don’t have an ultrasonic cleaner in the practice I work in currently. But I understand you can use them with just purified water, or with purified water + an enzymatic cleaner. If you are using an enzymatic cleaning solution it will likely tell you the optimum cleaning temperature in the data sheet or on the back of the container. We use Safe4 in practice, and their enzymatic cleaner specifically states to use at 40 degrees C for optimum results. The enzymatic cleaner you use will also have a contact time - again, for Safe4 this is 10 minutes.

if you are using without an enzymatic cleaner you would probably need to check the instructions for the specific model of ultrasonic cleaner you have?

It’s also my understanding that ideally you should be checking the effectiveness of the equipment every once in a while by running the equipment at the setting you usually use without the lid on and with a folded piece of tin foil held in the solution. You should see a specific pattern of tiny puncture marks or pockets on the foil which shows the ultrasonic waves are working efficiently. I don’t know if this is old school or just something really nerdy that only I would do!

RE: Ultrasonic cleaner instructions

Check on your chemicals for their optimum temperature

Most prefer to heat to about 40 degrees, and usually for somewhere between 4 and 6 minutes. In the practices I have worked and locumed in there has been a fair bit of variation about the exact temperature and timings, but its usually around that ball park. Hope this helps
