What do you use as a tie for a rabbit endotracheal tube? We use k band cut into strips usually but we’ve found that they tend to slip from the rabbit tubes. Anyone have any other good alternatives? Thank you in advance x

RE: What do you use as a tie for a rabbit endotracheal tube?

Hi Angela, thank you for your comment. We started using some non stretch ties that we also use for ET tubes for dentals. They are plastic so they stay put and work well. Being plastic we re-use them as many times as we can and treat them as we would any other item that needs to be thoroughly cleaned then disinfected. Thanks again for your input :)

RE: What do you use as a tie for a rabbit endotracheal tube?

Hi .... May I suggest that when securing an airway device, be that an ETT or v-gel, it doesn't really matter what you use but it is advisable to use something non-stretchy. Anything that has an element of Stretch to it, will automatically create movement and the idea is to keep these devices nice and still and in place.

RE: What do you use as a tie for a rabbit endotracheal tube?

Thank you that’s a great idea!

RE: What do you use as a tie for a rabbit endotracheal tube?

HI,

I have used nylon suture for the tubes as this will not leave any fibres behind that could get caught in the guts of the rabbit, can still tie it behind the head and can also be used for other small furries and cats etc. Started using this in a Vets 4 Pets about 15 years ago and never looked back and back then we were doing 5-8 rabbit anaesthetics a week.

Hope that helps

RE: What do you use as a tie for a rabbit endotracheal tube?

Works for all the small furries. If they are masked then I loop the k ban through the mask and hook it over their teeth to keep it in place, if that makes sense.
i believe there are Rubber tube ties that you can buy and re-use, ive also heard of drip tubing as an alternative.

In the past i have taped tubes with micropore tape, this we had too do on the snakes, tortoises etc when tubing.
