But is this the best dental suture to use?

RE: Where I would find information on the ideal suture material to use in dental surgeries

Thank you for the reply and I appreciate the link you have sent as well.
Silk is still widely used in people (and catgut outside Europe interestingly) but the principles of suture selection (minimise inflammation, use a material that loses strength as tissue healing regains strength) make either Monocryl, Caprosyn or a generic equivalent good choices. I find 6-0 too fiddly to work with personally, but 4-0 is a good choice.

Someone called Hotston Moore wrote a nice piece in Companion on suture selection you might get hold of through BSAVA subscription. Or find it here https://www.researchgate.net/publication/358038636_How_to_Choose_a_suture_material_for_soft_tissue_surgery

RE: Where I would find information on the ideal suture material to use in dental surgeries

*with vicryl

RE: Where I would find information on the ideal suture material to use in dental surgeries

The problem nicely is that it is multifilament which can trap debris and bacteria. A monofilament is recommended and suitable to the size of the patient.
