Tomorrow though I revert back to being a paranoid owner as my black GSD Kidu is

Re: changing from nursing assistant (soon to be SVN) to a paranoid owner!

well, she's home safe and sound.
She doesn't like to settle though so I keep getting up to see where she's gone......and getting shouted at by hubby to leave her alone because she's all right!
Check up on saturday and stitches out just after I start my new job...

Re: changing from nursing assistant (soon to be SVN) to a paranoid owner!

I have always said that knowing 'too much' isnt really a good thing

However, Albatross, I am sure Kidu will be just fine. Just let the vets and nurses do what they do best!!

I wouldnt always go down the 'stronger' pain relief route until you/vet/nurse see how she is post-operatively. The reason I say that is because a few years ago when my greyhound was being neutered, I thought I would be a good 'mum' and give him morphine in his pre-med (with the agreement from vet!) turns out he would have been better with the normal pre-med combo as he totally freaked out post operative and it was definitely because of the morphine.

Good luck for tomorrow, will be thinking of you(and Kidu!!) xx

Re: changing from nursing assistant (soon to be SVN) to a paranoid owner!

Hope it all goes well tomorrow I think we all change from nurses to paranoid owners when it comes to one of our own, you're not alone!

Re: changing from nursing assistant (soon to be SVN) to a paranoid owner!

Hi

We all get really anxious when our pets need anything doing! I am a class example following my pets around the hospital throughout their stay, some people would prefer not to be around for procedures but I do prefer to be there as I know (cos it has happened) that should anything go wrong during anything I just switch back to full nurse mode and get on with the job as if it wasn't one of mine - i then break down later on.

However I work with many nurses who would prefer not to be around and just let someone else get on with it all.

I'm sure she will be fine, my youngest cat has a majorly bad heart and she has coped through a few GA's

Re: changing from nursing assistant (soon to be SVN) to a paranoid owner!
Low pain threshold? Or picking up on over anxious owner vibes? I wonder!
the only time she's been ill was when I was working away from home and my husand had to call out the vet because he doesn't drive. She was crying and pressing herself tight to the ground and exhibiting a lot of pain for what actually turned out to be nothing much - that was about 3 months ago. I only wish she was picking up on an anxious mum - but thankfully today she's fine and oblivious to her mum's state of mind!
I just wish tomorrow was over and she was home again after the op. Maybe I feel worse because I've never had an animal with heart problems undergo GA.

Re: changing from nursing assistant (soon to be SVN) to a paranoid owner!

Never easy being the owner when you have worked in the job!
