I’ve just started work at a new practice as head nurse and they are soaking their anaesthetic circuits and et tubes in Milton.
Their circuits and et tubes have bit of a chalky residue on them and it makes me uncomfortable to be using these in

RE: Cleaning anaesthetic circuit and et tubes

chalky residue may not be totally connected to the milton if you are in a hard water area. More likely to be as a result of insufficient rinsing. see if you get the same result with distilled water? are you using milton liquid or sterilising tablets?

RE: Cleaning anaesthetic circuit and et tubes

Milton very easy - 30ml (1 capful) to 5L water. 15 min soak. Shake off excess, but no need to rinse. Even says you can keep items in the solution, but must be changed every 24 hours.

I always run ET tubes under the tap before use to ease insertion.

RE: Cleaning anaesthetic circuit and et tubes

Miltons has a pretty clear instructions on what to do. If I remember correctly it's 1/160, soak for 15 minutes and rinse. I think it's only good for 24hr though, couldn't comment on how cost effective this is against something like Reprodis?

I agree though, residue bad, througher rinsing a must.
