I'm in the process of building a nurse consult room. Plan was stalled by COVID but the roof joists are up so ready to roll in the next 6 weeks or so.
Currently, I'm setting it up the same as the vet rooms (table, chair, scales, cabinets)

RE: Nurse Consult Room

apache

Your question is up in Vet Nurse Chatter... Lurk away and read the replies!

I will post your thanks in a day or so, after you have received ideas (there's some there already!)

I wish ours was like that - no heating in mine so you need to keep on the move or the hypothermia sets in. Even the woolly mammoths have decamped for warmer climes

RE: Nurse Consult Room

[quote userid="10972" url="~/001/veterinary-nurse-clinical/small-animal/f/misc-clinical-discussions/32238/nurse-consult-room/177439#177439"]Alison - thanks for the VN chatter offer - I am a silent member.
Done. Wait for the post to be approved and them hopefully you will see some more suggestions. I let it open for any/all (might get repeats) but thought that better than being prescriptive.

RE: Nurse Consult Room

Thanks, Sal.

There will be a radiator, and opening roof lights so warming and safe ventilation. New structure so well insulated and that should really help with temperature control.

I hadn't thought of duplicating lab items but a glucometer is easy to sort, as are some dipsticks and refractometer. Some good clippers already ordered.

Have also sorted a printer/scanner as it will be useful to get onto the PMS and do insurance forms etc.

Alison - thanks for the VN chatter offer - I am a silent member. See if anyone here has any more input....

(maybe I've thought of everything ;) )

There will be a chair for customer and stool for nurse. General and clinical waste bins......

RE: Nurse Consult Room

I'm sure you will have already sorted this because you take care of your nurses but some ventilation when its hot and some form of heating when its cold a sink and a table and somewhere to store odds and sods and thats me happy. I have yet to have a nurse consult room that has heating believe it or not and I have worked in quite a few different ones - working out of the cupboard under the stairs at one place was quite memorable when you could hear (and feel!) people going up and downstairs inches above your head - and I'm only 5ft1 and a bit. Other than that I think Alison has pretty much covered it. A glucometer would be nice if running diabetic clinics but thats just a minor thing

RE: Nurse Consult Room

Not much response apache Would you like me to ask for some feedback on VetNurse Chatter on Facebook for you?
Cat/small animal scale already purchased, as is a dedicated otoscope and chip scanner. There will be some walk on scales, but recessed into floor would be hard as a solid concrete slab!

Smooth surfaces a challenge as its basically an outside wall so traditional stone. Fold up table not an option, but I see the sense.

Will look into a notice board and cat box shelf - many thanks for that.

Anyone else any words of wisdom?

RE: Nurse Consult Room

A weigh scale set into the floor so my patients can just walk onto it.

My own cat/small patient weigh scale (vets always nick it!).

A shelf for cat basket to keep it off the floor and off my table.

A notice board on the wall for my posters and pods for my leaflets...on the client side of my table plus a pod rack on the wall my side of the table.

A drop down exam table so I can make extra space e.g. for my behavioural consults (so I'm not crowding my patient)

Smooth surfaces that are easy to clean with no nooks and crannies for dust muckles and dirt to hold a party in

Computer that can be adjusted to head height/sitting height (avoiding neck/back strain). With a wipe clean keyboard protector. Keyboard off the table.

Otoscope - always having to borrow the vets. I do ear exams too!!

....there ya go...just a few off the cuff... If I think of anything else I'll post it!

Hope there's something in the above that helps!!
