Does anyone have a nice list or guidance for receptionists when taking calls so that they can recognise when something is an emergency please?
I've printed off the bsava guide but I'd like something a bit more detailed that that.
Thanks in advance

RE: Help for receptionists when assessing calls to determine an emergency

please could you email me a copy? joanne.findlay@donaldsonsvets.co.uk

Experience has taught me that owners both over and underestimate severity, and we need to see these animals and decide.

A torn nail is not a critical emergency, but is causing ongoing pain and suffering until removed and treated. My worry is these guides look to put off 'safe' things and nothing is put-off-able until seen by a vet/RVN. As a vet I find it hard enough deciding whether to see things OOH when I speak to the owners on the phone, not possible for receptionists.

RE: Help for receptionists when assessing calls to determine an emergency

That would be amazing!
