Vet must have seen the first time and diagnosed. Then writes in clinical notes to delegate task to RVN. It is classed as an act of veterinary surgery but can be delegated under schedule 3.Only vets and RVNs can express internally - lay people and groomers etc can only squeeze from outside.

Vet must see and diagnose the first time, then can delegate to RVN for subsequent appointments e.g. They write in clinical notes that RVN can do. RVNs can express from internal anus (finger in) but others e.g. groomer etc are only permitted to squeeze from outside (as enters body cavity). Go to RCVS Standards Committee Minutes 19.1.19 page 96 right at the top.
