I work at a busy first opinion hospital which also covers multiple practices OOH. We often have v. busy surgery lists which when it comes to booking is a bit of a free for all.
We are trying to look at ways to make the ops list more manageable

RE: Booking surgical procedures

I have a similar system to Olivia - each procedure has a set amount of time booked (eg. 30 mins for cat spays and dog casts, 45 mins for bitch spays etc.). Once the time's booked up, I move them into the vets' lists and block out the booking column and we have no more bookings. I go through the list every day fixing any timing errors to keep it manageable. If you don't want to micromanage for errors though, I like Olivia's colour coding system.

RE: Booking surgical procedures

We have a list which has as many cases as we can handle a day segmented in each category.

The categories are routine/minor ops, bitch spays, dentals, major ops and diagnostics and they have their own coloured boxes underneath and once the amount of coloured boxes under each category are filled that is it everyone knows not to book anymore on that day if those boxes are full.

Could something like this work for you?
